2 Filmmakers win J$500,000 to support production of film projects

Filmmakers Tony Hendriks (right) and Letay Williams celebrate their wins as each person won a J$500,000 grant to produce their projects "Shoot the Girl" and "Traytown", respectively.

Two filmmakers have won J$500,000 each towards the production of their films as the result of a film pitch competition held on Friday, March 29, 2019, at JAMPRO's Film, Animation and Music Local Investor Forum.

The pitch, which was held as a part of the British Council, JAMPRO, and Jamaica Film and Television Association (JAFTA) film development programme, Film Lab, awarded Tony Hendriks' project "Shoot the Girl" with the first-place prize of J$500,000. The prize was provided by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport.

In a surprise move, the second placed pitch "Traytown" was also awarded J$500,000 by Trinidadian investment management firm Aspire Fund Management and C15. Letay Williams' compelling pitch motivated the judges to provide the grant to support the production of the film.
