The presentation took place on August 27, 2019.

The Jamaica Castor Industry Association (JCIA) has recognised JAMPRO for the Agency's support of the development, promotion and protection of the castor oil industry. The Association made the presentation as the JCIA's Secretariat has now relocated from JAMPRO to the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA).

JAMPRO's first contact with the industry motivated the Agency to commission a study, Developing the Castor Oil Opportunity, with emphasis on the world-renowned Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO). The study stated that JBCO and its related products achieved average worldwide annual retail sales of approximately US$75 to $100 million, and by 2020 sales could reach US$1.81billion. Based on the potential identified in this study, JAMPRO facilitated the creation of the JCIA, and executed various initiatives to strengthen the industry and promote local castor oil manufacturers in international markets.

While the association's secretariat has moved to the JMEA, JAMPRO continues to provide industry development guidance, support for the protection of Jamaican Black Castor Oil and marketing opportunities internationally for local exporters and manufacturers. Mr Haughton noted his gratitude for JAMPRO's support, and Mrs. Henlon Forrester said that this would continue as JAMPRO is committed to the growth of the castor industry.
