Jamaican delegation representing the local film industry at Cannes 2019

 A Jamaican delegation is currently participating in the Cannes Film Festival by representing the island at the Pavillon Afrique (African Pavilion) from the 14th to the 22nd of May 2019. 

Film Commissioner Renee Robinson is leading the delegation at the festival, as the group seeks to engage international film industry stakeholders and promote Jamaica as a location for destination filming and original content.

Pavillon Afriques is a platform within the Marché du Film (International Village) of the Cannes Film Festival which provides access to African and Black cinema content, and an opportunity for filmmakers, artists, distributors and stakeholders to showcase their content and unique potential. The group of participating countries in the PavilIon Afriques includes Nigeria, Jamaica, Ghana, Tanzania, The Gambia, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, and others.

In addition to representing the island at the pavilion, the Jamaican made 2018 JAFTA Propella film ‘Flight’ has been selected to be in the “Short Film Corner” at Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Festival International Du Film PanAfricain De Cannes. 

JAMPRO aims to promote Jamaica's recent growth in the development of screen-based content to secure meetings, investment opportunities, and promote other Jamaican content. The delegation will also participate in panels discussing various topics in the film industry.
