The Government of Jamaica has extended numerous incentives to investors in the sector, including Income Tax relief, duty concessions on production-related imports, and industry modernization incentives. Farmers who engage in the production of certain crops qualify for "Approved Farmer" status, and enjoy related benefits. Most agricultural products grown and produced in Jamaica qualify under this provision. Companies involved in the hatching of eggs are also eligible. The successful attainment of "Approved Farmer" status entitles farmers to relief from income tax and customs duties for up to ten years, after which the status may be renewed.
Investors in the agricultural sector have benefited from duty concessions on imports related to production and modernization of industry incentives for equipment, which have contributed to the technological advancement of the industry.
