Fiwi Foods – Presenting the flavor of Jamaica to the world
Since its inception in 2006, Fiwi Foods Limited has enjoyed significant success with its impressive line of authentic Jamaican sauces and seasonings, which are manufactured to meet international standards as the company seeks to highlight and present flavours that are distinctly Jamaican to the world.
Jerk Seasoning and Honey Glaze sauce, the company's two flagship products, have been experiencing growing appeal in local and overseas markets. Fiwi Foods’ products have generated considerable international interest in the wake of the company’s participation in the 56th Summer Fancy Food show in New York in June 2010, which was facilitated by JAMPRO. Andrei J. Brissett, Managing Director of Fiwi Foods, indicated that his objective of raising online orders by attending the event was not only met, but exceeded, as the company has since registered an increase in sales and general visits to its website.
Brissett further expressed confidence in being part of the JAMPRO-led delegation of local exporters in the food and beverage sector that will be attending next year’s staging of the Fancy Food Show. Fiwi Foods has consistently made the effort to participate in JAMPRO’s development workshops and promotional activities. In 2009, the company was invited to submit products to be included in the JAMPRO-mounted “Brand Jamaica” display at the American Royal Barbeque in Kansas, which provided great awareness for the brand, and subsequently resulted in online sales from Kansas and surrounding states. According to Brissett, JAMPRO’s support as facilitators has been of tremendous benefit to exporters.
“The work of JAMPRO has been excellent, not only as it relates to export promotion, but also in its overall efforts through seminars and workshops that guide young businesses towards success” he stated.
Fiwi Foods has utilized several avenues for distribution of its products and is now in negotiations for private labelling of its jerk seasoning. Quite notably, the company also supplies its jerk seasoning as value-added input for other products and as a main ingredient/base product in food preparation. This has resulted in rewarding ventures for the company. Brissett, however, was understandably tight-lipped about the names of the companies that use Fiwi Foods products for value-added input, but pointed out that consumers have been enjoying the products without recognizing its origin.
He divulged plans to continue establishing the Fiwi Foods brand locally and aggressively tackling the export market. A firm believer in the guerrilla marketing approach, he has set his sights on providing consumers worldwide with “an authentic taste of Jamaica” that reflects and invokes the brand’s mantra, “Lively up your taste!”
