The JAMPRO Interactive Investment Map is a resourceful mapping tool that provides a pictorial view and related data on key infrastructure and institutions, investment projects, lands for development, film locations and natural resources. This comprehensive web-based tool functions as a self-service facility that allows users to access a wide range of pertinent information that will assist them in making investment decisions.

Powered by 1|Map, a flexible yet powerful mapping framework built atop the Google Maps platform by Mona GeoInformatics Institute (MGI), the JAMPRO Interactive Investment Map places geographic information system (GIS) functionality in the hands of the end user. With just a simple sequence of clicks, users can access a comprehensive catalogue of spatially-aware data for Jamaica.

HOW CAN IT HELP ME?

Based on the recognition that each individual investor has unique needs, the Map was conceptualised and designed to allow investors to run queries for specific information and answers that are generated by their own inputs. JAMPRO, through the Map, has given potential and existing investors a vehicle to independently research and explore destination Jamaica on their own terms. The user can add and remove layers of information, as required, to provide a graphical representation of the data to support their investment decision. Below are some practical examples of scenarios and questions that can be addressed by the JAMPRO Interactive Investment Map:

1. I want to do a film shoot and require two separate locations - a cliff and a golf course. What are the available locations? What hotels are close by? Can I access the locations by air?
2. I am planning to set up a manufacturing facility and will need an accessible pool of trained professionals. What is the distribution of tertiary training facilities relative to my planned manufacturing facility?
3. I plan to visit Jamaica and want to meet with some exporters. What exporters are available? Where are they located? How best can I access them?

HOW DO I NAVIGATE THE MAP?

Use the cursor to zoom into any area and view the quantitative summaries presented on the Map. Points in each layer are grouped, and a number placed on the icon to indicate the total number of points contained in a general geographic area. This feature is useful for viewing the concentration of points in an area. For example, "How many guest houses are in Negril?" or "How many beaches are in St. Thomas?". This information is clearly communicated simply by zooming and panning the JAMPRO Interactive Investment Map.

Having zoomed into an area and obtained various place marks, the user can click on the place mark to view more information. This extra information ranges from text to rich content, depending on the information being explored. Where applicable, users can view pictures related to selected place marks and/or access an additional link for more information.

WHAT KIND OF DATA IS AVAILABLE?

Users can browse the catalogue of over 80 layers of data using the organised, hierarchical menu interface. All layers have been classified and grouped into folders and subfolders, which simplifies the task of finding a specific layer to add to the Map.
