JAMAICA GOING TO WORLD EXPO IN CHINA

Jamaica Trade and Invest (JTI/JAMPRO), will co-ordinate Jamaica's participation in the World Expo, due to take place in China from May 1 to October 31.

Details of the promotional plans for the duration of the expo were unveiled at a press conference hosted by the JTI on Wednesday.

The Jamaican delegation which leaves for Shanghai on Thursday is charged with promoting high value niche exports from Jamaica, positioning the country as a viable investment destination and show casing Jamaican culture to Chinese and other international investors.

The JTI will host two distributor forums aimed at linking Chinese investors with Jamaican exporters and manufacturers.

About 76 million people are expected to attend the event which will be held in Shanghai over a period of six months.

Karl Samuda, Commerce Minister, who was speaking at a press launch of the expo, urged them to be meticulous in ensuring that only the best of Jamaica's produce is put on show in China.

"Whatever products we take to China must be perfect because the impression that we need to give our buyer about Jamaica that our products are excellent ... nothing else will do. We are no just sun, sand and sea ... we're a great vibrant country that offers opportunities for investors and for businesses to trade those goods and services which we produce.

"That must be the image that we project at all times," Mr. Samuda.

About 20 local exporters will get the chance to showcase a wide range of products and services at the expo.
