Animation is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, and Jamaica has been making impressive strides in this field. Alcyone Animation’s development of Cabbie Chronicles, the Caribbean’s first animated cartoon series, is evidence of talent and technical know-how in Jamaica. Reel Rock GSW Studio, a player in the local animation industry, has succeeded in securing deals with international studios to create content for animation series.

As a labour-intensive activity, animation is capable of creating jobs for animators, graphic designers, web designers, video and film editors, among others, and ultimately provide an avenue to develop raw local talent into highly skilled resources. In support of the industry, Jamaica’s University of Technology (UTECH) will introduce a 4-year degree programme in animation in September 2013.
