JAMPRO re-establishes confidence in Jamaica’s economy at NYC Investor Briefing

Hosted by JAMPRO and CitiGroup, the briefing featured presentations from Dr. The Honourable Dr. Peter Phillips, Minister of Finance and Planning, and JAMPRO representatives about the positive movement of the Jamaican economy and local investment opportunities. 

New York, New York: Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) and Citigroup hosted an economic and investor briefing at Citigroup global headquarters on 31 October 2014 in New York.  In an effort to build relationships with potential and existing investors, Dr. The Honourable Peter Phillips, Minister of Finance and Planning and JAMPRO’s President, Diane Edwards, communicated the positive trajectory of the Jamaican economy to international media and corporate entities.  

Held on the heels of Jamaica’s significant improvement in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report Ranking, the event titled Jamaica's Economy: New Possibilities Ahead presented the diverse government and private business opportunities available for investments and the steps being made to increase Jamaica’s competitiveness and economic growth.

The audience included key Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) players like Xerox and Hinduja Group, Princeton Healthcare and other healthcare investors, various financial institutions and U.S. Government officials. The briefing also provided attendees and business media giants, Bloomberg and the Financial Times, with an update of JAMPRO’s commitment to the reform of the economy and insight on the various opportunities for investment.

JAMPRO plans to use more face-to-face meetings as a method of marketing Jamaica’s business brand and to generate investment leads. Of this strategy, JAMPRO President, Diane Edwards says “Jamaica is moving in the right direction economically, now we must do the work needed to ensure that Jamaica’s reputation as a business destination becomes the forefront of the country’s global brand. JAMPRO will be engaging potential clients in direct interactions to let them know that Jamaica is here, and we are ready to do business.”

JAMPRO continues its efforts to aggressively promote Jamaican investment and trade opportunities through a robust promotional strategy including briefings, direct marketing and major events like the Jamaica Investors Forum (www.jamaicainvestmentforum.com) in March 2015. The agency will also continue to communicate positive news about the country's economy to forge a formidable business brand image for Jamaica.
